Denali National Park Alaska Travel and Transportation
|
|
Easier Than Ever
Access to the interior of Denali National Park, including Kantishna, is only by
bus from the park entrance or by small aircraft.
Transportation to
the park was only by railroad from the 1920s to the mid-1950s, when the Denali
Highway (Highway 8) finally reached it from the east.
Upon completion of the George Parks Highway (Highway 3) in 1968, direct access
was available to the the park entrance from Anchorage and Fairbanks.

Alaska - Rental Car Service
|
|

Many Alaska vacation-goers choose to rent a car while touring
the state. Alaska rental cars offer a degree of flexibility to an Alaska
vacation and can often save a considerable amount of money. This is especially
true for groups of three or more.
The Parks Highway between Anchorage and Denali National Park is well paved and
is easily traveled in the summer. Speed limits range from 55 to 65 mph with the
trip between Anchorage and Denali National Park taking on average around 5
hours.
Gas is readily available along the Parks Highway but is usually more expensive
the further away from you get from Anchorage. Prices at the pump between
Anchorage and Denali National Park range from $2.25 to $2.75 per gallon.
One note of caution, however; because the supply of cars is limited, travelers
should reserve a vehicle as early as possible in their Alaska vacation planning.
